Download NowMost online poker rooms offer freeroll tournaments with different payout structures that give even the amateur poker player a chance to win real money!

There are many different types of players in freeroll poker tournaments, from the complete beginner to the tournament veteran.

Most of the players you see in a freeroll tournament will fall into one of three main categories.  The first type is the Maniac. These players will try and build huge stacks in a quick period of time by going all-in with anything.  They are usually going to get a big stack or they are going to go bust.  We like these players if we get a big hand against them and take all their chips.  We hate them if they outdraw our big hand and bust us out.  We also hate them because they keep us from playing marginal drawing hands that we might normally play.

The next type of player in the freeroll tournament is the tournament regular.  He is there to work on his tournament play and to take a shot at a free prize.  Most of these players are the ones that will survive the first break and these are the types of players that you will see at the final table. The other main type of player you will see at the freeroll tourney is the amateur player.  This type of player is only in the tournament to have fun.  They are there to talk, have fun, and play.  They will probably play every hand and try to get lucky.

When you play in a freeroll tournament there are a couple of things you want to keep in mind.  The first thing to remember and it is important, is that you will probably be spending a lot of time playing in the tourney and win nothing.  You have to remember it is a freeroll tournament and it didn't cost you anything, so don't be surprised when you don't win anything. Most of these online casino freeroll tourneys don’t pay out very many places so it takes a very good finish to get into the money.

The biggest reason to play freerolls is for experience. You can use this experience to move up to the regular cash tournaments or some of the ring games. You also want to remember as you get involved in freeroll tournaments that you are risking nothing.  You probably won't win very often but you will gain experience. Be prepared to spend a few hours playing and enjoy the experience. You might even get lucky and win some free money.
