Be on the lookout for when a poker player such as “Tight Terry” sits down. He'll probably come in with a pre-flop raise and then comes out blazing with a huge raise after the flop. He is all but showing his pocket pair to the table and making it quite clear to the rest of the players that he has one of the powerhouse poker hands. So why would you answer “Tight Terry” with a call or over the top raise, yourself? This is a prime example of learning to fold your poker hand. The reason such mistakes are made at the poker table no matter if it is at an online poker website or in person at a casino poker room, is because other players calling those raises also have strong hands, such as “Big Slick” (ace-king) but are not paying attention to the overall big picture. In this situation when Tight Terry comes out blazing with his poker chips on raised bets it is a clear cut indicator that he is holding a monster hand and it is playing with fire to call him. When players call tight players who come in with big time raises on big time poker hands, they become “pot committed” which means that calling those raises puts the player’s calling in the unenviable position at the table of not being able to fold their hands because they have so many chips invested. Even world class poker players on the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker, who also have world class egos are still learining to fold good hands into the muck when facing the massive raise of a tight Texas Holdem poker opponent. It is a difficult thing to do but they also know that it is better to retreat with chips in order to live and fight other more winnable poker hands. It doesn’t take a genius, even at poker, to figure out which online poker players or in person poker players are the tight players and once they are identified and come out firing on poker hands it’s a clear read to fold your hands at those times. You must learn how to fold in poker if you want to be a long term winner. Don’t be like some of the maniacs in poker that refuse to fold. Learning to fold marginal poker hands is the best advice any player can give you, you'll live to fight another day. |
