 World Series of Poker satellites offer the chance to play in the Main Event held annually in Las Vegas and become a poker champion. Besides Chris Moneymaker's triumphant championship that he won from a poker satellite, the 2006 Series broke many records. The overwhelming number of entrants (8,773) alone surpasses all previous tournaments. The 2006 Series tournament not only had the most poker players it has ever seen but also had the largest prize pool ever awarded in tournament history with $12 million dollars in prize money going to first place. Each tournament winner receives the coveted diamond bracelet as well as the grand prize money. A Series tradition is to bring in the millions of dollars for the final table in cardboard boxes and have the eventual champion place their picture on the Gallery of Champions at Binion's. The winner of the Main Event has always carried the unofficial title of World Champion but today's top poker professionals have stated that the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event which was added to the tournament set recently, is the poker tournament that ultimately decides the world's best poker player.
