WPT Foxwoods Poker Classic Begins

The World Poker Tour Foxwoods Poker Classic main event begins on Friday with Erik Seidel looking to defend his title. Last year Siedel won almost $1 million dollars for taking home the first place prize. Seidel will be challenged by a number of top pros including Jonathan Little who won at Foxwoods in the World Poker Finals back in Nov.

Little has won two WPT titles in his career.

The main event at Foxwoods has a $10,000 buy in and there are expected to be more than 330 entrants. Last year the field had 346 for a total prize pool of over $3.2 million.

Seidel took the title last year with Robert Richardson finishing second, Andrew Barta was third, Frank Cieri fourth, Adam Katz fifth and Ted Forrest sixth. Last year the top 40 finishers made the money.

In other poker tournament news, Dwyte Pilgrim won the WSOP Circuit event in San Diego. The $5,000 Buy-in event had 106 entries making first place worth $125,775 plus an entry into the 2009 World Series of Poker main event in July.

Pilgrim was able to defeat a fairly weak field that included only a few top names. Michael Binger was probably the best known pro in the field. The top nine finishers made the money. When heads up play started it was Pilgrim who had a 2-1 lead over Esther Taylor in chips.

The next WSOP Circuit event takes place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas later this month.

Looking ahead in the poker schedule we find that the 2009 World Series of Poker begins on May 27th with preliminary events. The main event begins on Friday, July 3rd. It gets down to the final table on July 14th and then there will be a break until November 7th when final table action resumes.

There are a few changes to this year’s WSOP as there will be no rebuy events and there will be a new $40,000 No-Limit Holdem Tournament. There are a total of 58 events, 57 with bracelets awarded and one charity event.
