Nenad Medic Wins First 2008 WSOP Event |

The first event in the 2008 World Series of Poker is in the books and the winner was poker pro Nenad Medic. The first WSOP event was the $10,000 Pot-Limit Holdem tournament that had a prize pool of $3.3 million dollars. The final table saw a good battle between Medic, Mike Sexton, Andy Bloch, Patrik Antonius, Phil Laak, Chris Bell, Amit Makhija, Mike Sowers and Kathy Liebert. Bloch was the leader when the WSOP final table started. He had a 2-1 chip lead over his closest competitor who was Medic. Laak was the first to go after losing a big pot to Antonius and then getting eliminated by Medic. Sowers went out next followed by Antonius. Sixth place went to Bell followed by Makhija in fifth. Sexton went out in fourth place after losing a big hand to Medic and then Liebert eliminated him. Liebert went out in third place. The heads-up poker battle had Medic starting with about a 2-1 chip lead over Bloch and he was rarely threatened. Here are the results for the first WSOP event and the payouts. 1st – Nenad Medic – 794, 112 The second WSOP event was the $1,500 No-Limit Holdem tournament that attracted a record field of 1,800 players. Also underway was event three and event four. WSOP event three is a $1,500 Pot-Limit Holdem tournament that drew 713 entrants. Event four is a $5,000 Mixed Holdem Limit/No-Limit event that drew 332 entrants. Also underway is event #5, a $1,000 No-Limit Holdem with Rebuys tournament. A total of 766 entrants are in that tournament. Also underway is event #6, the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or better tourney. It is a limit tourney. |
