Download NowHuck Seed finally broke through and won a major poker tournament, winning the 2008 Heads-Up Canadian Open Poker Championships in Calgary, Alberta. The 2008 Heads-Up Canadian Open Poker Championships was held at The Deerfoot Inn and Casino.

He outlasted "Yukon" Brad Booth in a best of three match that lasted over five hours.

This was an amazing tournament in terms of both structure and quality of players" said Huck Seed, "I love it when the cream rises to the top and I get a chance to play with the best in the world. I am so happy that I finally won a heads up tournament!"

Seed won $100,000 for his first place finish. Last year he finished third in this event and he has finished 3rd the last two years in the NBC Heads-Up tournament. Many of the top pros enjoyed the setup in the heads-up format which was a best of three, including 2005 World Series of Poker Champion Joe Hachem. "This is by far the best heads up tournament I have ever played in and I will definitely be back next year. The structure is much better than the World Series or NBC Invitational with the best of 3 format and a terrific blind structure."

The Heads-Up main event attracted a total of 64 players that put up $5,000 each making for a prize pool of almost $300,000.  The tournament donated 2.5% of the total prize pool to charity.  Seed took home the hundred grand for first place.  Booth won just over $50,000 for second.  Graeme Putt finished third and pocketed $30,000.  Gavin Smith finished fourth and also took home $30,000.  Nghi Van Tran finished 5th and collected $20,000.  Joe Hachem finished 6th and took home $20,000.  Van Marcus finished 7th and collected $20,000 while Shawn Buchanan took 8th place for $20,000.

In other poker news, Ted Forrest will try and defend his title in the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star Championship which begins this week.  This is the tournament where bounties are on the poker pros and $5,000 is given to the player that knocks out a pro.  Last year Forrest took home the title and the top prize of $1.1 million.  Most of the top poker pros in the world are taking part in this tournament.
