Allen Carter Wins Southern Poker Championship

The latest World Poker Tour event is in the books as Allen Carter took home the $1 million dollar first place prize by winning the Southern Poker Championship. The four-day event in Biloxi, Mississippi had a very long final table that took over 8 hours to complete. It finally came down to Carter against Bobby Suer for the title and Carter was able to prevail.

Many of the biggest names in poker were part of this event but failed to make a mark. Those players included Erick Lindgren, Brandon Cantu, Barry Greenstein, T.J. Cloutier, Hoyt Corkins and Bill Edler.

One pro that did make her mark though was Vanessa Rousso who finished in 7th place, just outside of the final table of six. A total of 283 players entered the tournament and the first place prize money was less than $1 million so tournament organizers put in the extra $24,000 to make up the difference. Carter also won the 25,500 entry into the WPT Championship.

In other poker tournament news, David Steicke won the $100,000 No-Limit Holdem Challenge in the Aussie Millions. A total of 23 players put up the $100,000 (AUD) (66,336.76 USD) entry fee. That meant at pot of $2.3 million AUD.

Only the top four players got paid with $1.2 million going to the winner. Top poker pros Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Tony G and last year’s Aussie Millions champ Alexander Kostritsyn did not make the money. Bill Jordanou was the bubble boy finishing in 5th. Dan Shak finished in 4th place.

JC Tran finished in third place which meant the final heads-up battle would be between Steicke and Tony Bloom. It wasn’t much of a battle considering Steicke had a 10-1 lead in chips. Here is a look at the final results:
