ESPN is beginning their coverage of the 2008 World Series of Poker on Tuesday with coverage of Event #1, the $10,000 Pot Limit Holdem Championship. If you are tired of seeing reruns from last year then the new season will be a welcome relief. The first event covered by ESPN in the 2008 WSOP was a good one with a great final table. Star power was evident with Andy Bloch, Nenad Medic, Chris Bell, Patrick Antonius, Kathy Liebert, Mike Sexton and young Internet players Mike "Sowerss" Sowers and Amit "amak316" Makhija. The action at the final table is really very good and the coverage of the play on the table and the interest by the other poker pros and the fans is interesting to watch. It is also nice to see a woman make the final table. Kathy Liebert is one of the best women players in the world and she makes a very good showing in this event. 2008 World Series of Poker coverage on ESPN will have new episodes each Tuesday in addition to the reruns during the week. ESPN has been the standard for televised poker coverage and although they give less true poker action than other networks, the coverage is still very good. They also have a number of other features beyond the actual game play that make watching World Series of Poker coverage interesting. Lon McEachern is a good announcer while Norman Chad is amusing as his sidekick. The pairing may not be as good as Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten for the World Poker Tour but it is not bad. If you are looking to check out World Series of Poker coverage on ESPN you definitely want to watch on Tuesday for the new episodes. You will have to check your local listings for all of the reruns on ESPN, ESPN 2 and even the other ESPN family of networks like ESPN Classic. The World Series of Poker on ESPN is televised regularly in the United States and in previous years, Challenge TV has carried the broadcasts in the UK. 2008 World Series of Poker ESPN ScheduleJul. 22 8-10pm $10K PLHE |
