Tricky Pocket Hands

Online poker rules of strategy become much more complicated and difficult with medium rank pocket hands that can be good drawing poker hands, depending on the position of a Texas holdem player. Ace-ten and king-jack would fit the description of potentially decent drawing poker hands but much of that depends on position because from an early position you don’t want to put yourself out on a limb without first getting a read on the potential hands of your opponents.

These pocket hands are much easier to play with more effectiveness from a late position in online poker. With high card-medium card pocket hands such as ace-ten and king-jack, one of the wiser poker rules of strategy is that it is not a great idea to be calling the raises of other players. When facing a raise with such hands, a Texas holdem poker player would more often than not be correct in assuming that the player making the raise has a good hand.

Marginal pocket poker hands such as queen-jack, queen-ten, jack-ten, and ten-nine are really best played only from late position at an online poker table.

Such pocket poker hands certainly increase in value when suited, as it gives you additional outs playing online poker. That being said, these types of poker hands are definitely not ones to be calling raises with unless you know the tendencies of your opponents. Even then, it’s a dicey decision. Part of the final decision of whether to play medium drawing hands is your knowledge of your opponents at the poker table.

This, along with positioning and pot odds all merge together as part of the final equation that goes into whether or not an online poker player will bet on such hands. The problem with these marginal hands is that they can get you into serious trouble and have you making difficult decisions.

For example, let’s say you have that ace-ten and call a raise in front of you. The flop comes A-6-3. You now have a pair of aces but your kicker is weak. How confident will you be if your opponent raises? Now you are faced with a tough decision because you played a marginal hand. This happens all the time in online poker with marginal hands that never should have been played to begin with.

As you think about tricky poker hands you really need to be aware of what you will do after the flop. The last thing you want to do is to be playing a marginal pocket hand that can lose you money. When you get these marginal hands show some discipline and throw them into the much. You will save yourself money in the long run.
