Playing Online Poker versus New Players

Playing poker against new Texas Holdem players can be both profitable and frustrating. Beginners at Texas Holdem are very likely to make a number of mistakes, call nearly everything, and not react as you expect they would. Playing against these types of players can be frustrating, but if you are patient you can win money against them.

You will find that beginning Texas Holdem players have probably watched too much poker on television and are very aggressive. They will probably play a lot of hands, take a lot of chances, and rarely fold. If you understand this going in, you can take advantage of it. Playing Texas Holdem poker against the beginner can be frustrating when they draw out on you and win a big hand, but you can do the same thing to them. Many of the marginal starting hands that you normally wouldn’t play might be worth calling cheaply against new players.

You must be able to adapt your playing strategy to the opponents you may be facing. Playing poker against beginners can irritate you at times, so be patient. Don’t bluff very often and don’t get cute. Beginning players don’t understand the right things to do and won’t understand what you are doing. You need to remember that when you get good hands it is still the right move to bet aggressively.

You can definitely play suited connectors, straight draws, and flush draws more often than normal because you know the pot odds are going to be higher based on the loose play of the beginning players.

So what is the bottom line? The bottom line for playing No-Limit Texas Holdem against beginners is to play a little bit looser. You want to see more flops, call more, and overall get involved in the play more than you would against a tighter table.

You can take advantage of beginning players by trapping them and getting a big hand against them. You will definitely want to call a few more pots, even though the odds might not be as inviting, just for the simple fact that you could easily trap a beginner for a lot of money. The next time you play poker against a beginner remember to loosen up your play, see more flops and slow play a lot more than you normally would against better players. Don’t get annoyed when they draw out on you, just show patience and you can win money against new players.
