Everyone wants to win a poker tournament in today’s gambling world. ESPN, The Travel Channel and GSN have made watching poker nearly a nightly occurrence. The World Poker Tour gets great ratings as does the World Series of Poker and High Stakes Poker. Other networks like NBC, FSN, CBS also broadcast tournaments from around the world. Entry into many of these big events is $10,000 but you can find satellite events that are as low as $50 or even satellites to satellites for $10 or less.

What is the appeal of these big poker tournaments on television? It shows the best in the world playing poker and it also shows amateurs that have a real chance to win. You can be playing against Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson or other great players. If you can pay the entry fee or you can win your way into the event then playing with the best players is a real possibility.

These televised tournaments are great to watch, but they are not always great for the pros. The amount of people in these big tournaments makes it difficult for the pro to win. If you can just get the chance to sit at the table with the professionals and have even the slightest chance of winning then it is worth it. That is why there are so many satellite events that offer entry into these big events.

If you want to get into one of these televised poker tournaments it can be done but you will need a lot of luck as well as skill to do it. Winning big tournaments is not easy. There are many key decisions that will determine your fate throughout a tournament and that is one reason why you see amateurs win on occasion. Luck is a big key in which players make it to a final table in a big tourney.

Poker is a game of skill, but it is also a game of luck and that definitely is the case with many of these televised poker tournaments. You may be able to win your way into one but then you have to get lucky again to make the money. Those are the goals for many poker players and a big reason why televised poker tournaments remain popular around the world and why you will continue to see them nearly every night on TV.

You may want to take your shot at getting into the World Series of Poker by playing a satellite tournament today.
