Download NowWhen playing in Texas Holdem online poker tournaments it is always a challenging experience. No-Limit Texas Holdem, in particular, offers a wide variety of strategies that can enhance the player’s ability to win, and lessen their reliance on pure luck.

Any decent Texas Holdem player knows that they can’t count on pocket kings and aces all the time.

This means that to win Texas Holdem poker tournaments you need to play aggressive poker. Being aggressive in Texas Holdem poker doesn’t necessarily mean raising every hand, no matter what the strength of the hand is. In fact, waiting for especially strong hands during the early rounds can afford you a tremendous advantage. By playing extra tight during those first few rounds, you can allow some other players to knocked out, you can get a good sense of how some of the other players are playing, and when the time comes, you will be able to come out firing because you are still in control of your chips.

Many No-Limit Texas Holdem players believe that the best approach is to be tight and aggressive. This approach is especially beneficial in online poker tournaments. By playing extra tight in the early rounds, you are able to portray an image in the later rounds as a tight player. Texas Holdem players, it is often said, are only as good as their image. When the blinds raise a little, and you have a good image as a tight player, you are able to be extra aggressive in the later rounds.

This means you can take a more marginal hand and make a fairly substantial raise with it, and you will find more players respecting your image and that means less of a chance of having to show down your hand. Hopefully this will get you into a fairly substantial lead during the middle to late rounds. This comes in especially useful, as you now can decide on your strategy. You can continue to play aggressively, depending on the flow of the table, or you can tighten up again and let some other players bust out.

By playing aggressively, you may also be able to steal some blinds along the way, so that if you do decide to tighten up and wait it out, your stack of chips won’t suffer. It is vitally important, in the fast moving world of online No-Limit Texas Holdem tournaments, to realize that things change very, very quickly as the blinds move up. Although certainly helpful, it is not absolutely necessary to end up at the final table with the chip lead. You certainly don’t want to be short stacked, but an average stack versus other players is not an absolute death sentence. It is at this point that aggressive play becomes of the utmost importance.

In the final rounds, as the players are being busted out, remember to keep pressure on the other players. Playing poker with less players means your hand strength does not have to be that great. In fact, you will find that aggressive play, especially in the later rounds, will allow you to pick up a lot of blinds, and you will also find that by firing out a large bet on the flop, regardless of how it hit you, will allow you drag the pot as well.

Many Texas Holdem tournament players tighten up at the final stages of a tournament, and considering that the blinds are pretty high by this point, and that they come around very quickly, this is probably not a wise move.  Keep pressure on your opponents, and set the pace and tone of the game, and you will find that players will react to you instead of you reacting to them.
