Online texas holdem poker is played everywhere on a regular basis. Online poker sites have poker games going on every minute of every day. As you get involved in online poker you will need to know the basics of the game and what decisions to make when playing Texas Holdem.

The first decision you have to make in Texas Holdem is whether or not to play your hand at all.

There are a number of books on the market that will give you guidelines but the basics say that you should strongly consider folding if you have two non-pair cards that are both less than ten. Suited connectors and a lot of other combinations get you into nothing but trouble. Sometimes it is worth it to see the flop if the big blind is low enough and you are not raised but be careful.

Weak holdings can get you into all kinds of trouble. Your best strategy is to be patient and wait for the good hands. You don’t want to throw money away playing every single hand trying to hit something on the flop. You are better off sticking to the basics and playing only strong starting hands. The next basic decision in online Texas Holdem is what to do after the flop.

The basic rule here is that if you don’t see anything that looks strong, fold. This makes it very simple and straight-forward. So many people make the decision that since they are in the hand, they must stay in the hand. That is wrong. Don’t throw more money away chasing a losing hand.

As you get to the Turn and the River you want to be focused on what you want to do. Remember that your opponents are trying to win the hand just like you are. Very often they will be drawing to something, so if you are strong, make them pay to get extra cards. If you are in the drawing position you want to get in for as little as possible.

The point of this basic decision making in Texas Holdem is to stay away from playing the weak hands. They will continually cost you money and you are not going to draw out enough to make up for it. On the other side of the coin you want to make people pay to stay in the hand when you are strong. If they are going to draw, make them pay the price.

What you want to remember is to play aggressive with strong hands and to be careful with weak ones. You can look at strategies for Texas Holdem forever, so keep it simple for now and stay with the basics. You will have a chance to make money and stay out of trouble.
