You are able to gain a great deal of experience for a very small price. In these poker tournaments everyone starts with the same amount of chips and play continues until one player is left. At a low-limit 10-player tournament you can see a lot of hands, experience various situations, and prove to yourself how good your play is. Winning these poker tournaments means doesn’t mean you are a great player, but it does say that you are progressing. In addition to the single table tournaments you can also take part in some of the many multi-table tournaments. Many of these are for low buy-ins as well. A lot of them also act as satellite tournaments to get you into a bigger tourney. The great thing about all of these poker tournaments is that they give you experience. They also give you experience against both inexperienced players, and experienced ones. Some of the players act clueless and will bet all the way to the river if they think they have any kind of chance. The good news for you as a player is that you get to play a lot of poker without much risk. You will see a lot of flops, have to make a lot of decisions, and be put in real life situations when it comes to your stack. Just like in other low-limit cash games, you are going to get beat at the river by someone playing garbage, but such is life. If you can be patient while playing some of these poker tournaments then the benefits can be really good. You learn discipline, courage, patience, and smart play. You learn how to get rid of bad hands, how to analyze the table, etc, etc. These tournaments are great poker learning grounds. They provide a big advantage over the cash games because they give you the opportunity to see a lot more hands for less money. You also get to face a wide variety of players at these tables. You will run into inexperienced players that call anything. You will also run into players that are very good.
What you want to remember when you play poker tournaments like these is that eventually everyone gets eliminated. Your goal is to avoid elimination early in the tournament. Later on you can take some more chances, but early on you want to avoid big risks. If
you can show some patience, stay disciplined and strike at the right
times, you can be successful in some of these poker tournaments and gain
great poker playing experience. |
