Do Not Get Cute In Low Limit Texas Holdem

One of the big pitfalls that good Limit Texas Holdem poker players can be vulnerable to making, particularly against inexperienced poker players or “newbies” is to get too cocky by being too clever.

Limit Texas Holdem poker is a basic game of poker and is more based on solid fundamentals, knowledge and core skills rather than trickery.

It is interesting to note that often experienced Limit Holdem poker players will be more susceptible to tricks than newbies, because newbies lack the depth of knowledge and Holdem sophistication to be sucked into a clever trap as they will tend to take things more at face value.

Although being on the button is the most advantageous spot in Limit Texas Holdem poker, you still must refrain from making more out of it than what it is. Players have to resist the temptation against weaker players to overplay their position, particularly on the button.

In a Limit Holdem game you must actually respect the game itself, even if you don’t necessarily respect the competition because the game by its very betting limits helps keep the action honest and, again, a new and unsophisticated player will play things straight, which means if he is raising with pocket aces from an early position, you will leave yourself surprised and vulnerable with cockiness from the button against him. Against weaker opponents you will learn that you will face one of the toughest opponents you will ever face, yourself.

Getting too aggressive from an early position in Limit Holdem against weak players is also an invitation to disaster. If you are holding a medium to poor poker hand and overplay it and one of the newbies has power pairs, it’s unlikely that you will chase him off or bluff him out of a LimitHoldem poker game whereas it might be more possible in a No Limit Holdem poker game.

It is best to not deviate from your normal game, even if your opponents are weak, because you will automatically make your opponents stronger the minute that you forsake your normal solid game of standards and fundamentals and loosen up to the point of making yourself and your bankroll vulnerable to losses.

A good rule is to never underestimate an opponent, and just as well, never overestimate yourself. Respect yourself enough to challenge yourself, your decisions and your hands and play it as if you were playing against a champion. By refusing to make mistakes the newer or weak players will certainly end up making theirs and you’ll win going away by playing your normal best game.
