As you analyze opponents playing online poker, you are going to meet and encounter a lot of different types of players. Each one will have their individual characteristics, styles, patterns, strengths and weaknesses and overall personality. You will start to understand your poker opponents as you play with them more and more. You always want to respect poker opponents as a potential threat and never get too confident that you will simply beat someone, even if they are a weak player.

You should still treat weak poker opponents as a legitimate and potential threat so that you always keep your obvious edge over them and defeat them time after time, especially when playing Texas Holdem poker. When you become overconfident you become distracted and you end up playing down to the level of those weak players. Even the weakest of poker players will eventually be dealt strong hands or occasionally gets lucky. What you need to do is avoid being a major victim when everything goes well for that weak player.

You always want to remember that any hand can lose. It is a mistake to get overconfident with any hand. Certainly you should play some poker hands much stronger than others and not be afraid to play but you should also take into account that you can possibly lose to bad beats will occur, and you will lose to poker players who did stupid things.

You will find that by respecting each poker opponent as a threat, even if they are remote threats that you will protect yourself from ending up on tilt because you were shocked after a low percentage loss.

The more you respect your poker opponents as players and legitimate threats the better you are going to play but also, and just as importantly, the better you will be able to handle the inevitable bad beats that will come along.

Understanding your poker opponents is very important to understanding your own game. Some poker players do nothing else but read other players and base their plays off of their reads. Remember that reading players is critical if you want to win playing poker. Poker is a game of percentages at times but often it is a game about nerve and having the feel for what your opponents will or will not do. That is why reading your poker opponents and understanding them will benefit you every time you play online poker.
