Trente Quarante

Trente Quarante, the Game

Basic Rules

This is a simple French card game called Rouge et Noir (red and black) which is played with six decks of cards and offers four different types of bets: red, black, color and inverse. All bets are paid even money. Aces are one, face or countcards are ten, and all other cards are the face value. Two hands are dealt and each row must exceed 30, but not be over 40. The first card row is black, second is red, and the winning point payout is the one nearer to 30, or the lower hand. If the first card dealt in the first row is the same color as in the winning row, the color bet wins, or if the first card is of the opposite color, the inverse bet wins.
