Poker After Dark Begins in January

Download NowPoker After Dark, the poker show that is broadcast late nights on NBC, begins another news season in January with a star-studded lineup. The new season of Poker After Dark begins with a $20,000 buy-in, winner take all sit-n-go tournament with five top players and one wild card entry.

The five professionals that will be appearing in the Poker After Dark tournament are, Scotty Nguyen, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Jennifer Harman, Mike Matusow and the qualifier, Ken Light. He qualified for playing on Poker After Dark by winning an online qualifier that NBC sponsored. The host of the show will be Marianela Pereyra. She has done work with ESPN in the past and has also covered the Grammys for Access Hollywood. The new season of Poker After Dark on NBC begins next week.

In other poker TV news, the 4th annual NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship will be played in late February-early March and some of the invitations to top players have already gone out. Defending Champ Paul Wasicka will be back along with two-time runner-up Chris Ferguson. World Series of Poker Main Event Champions Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang are on the invite list. Also extended invites are 2006 National Heads-Up Champion Ted Forrest, Phil Ivey and Shannon Elizabeth.

The NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship is a 64 player tournament in which players face off with the winner advancing and the loser going home. The tournament is by invitation only but the invitees have to put up a $20,000 buy-in. Other top pros expected to be invited are Annie Duke, Antonio Esfandiari, Jonathan Little, Brian Townsend, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harmon, Gavin Smith and Mike Matusow.

Further invitations will go out as well so expect that players like Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth will be part of the tournament. The 2008 National Heads-Up Poker Championship will take place February 29th through March 2nd and be held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. NBC will broadcast the event beginning in April. Poker Host sponsored Ted Forrest in the 2006 National Heads-Up Poker Championship where he defeated Erik Seidel for the title.
