Remember that your decisions and actions at a loose poker table are going to be different than at a tight online poker table.

You need to adapt to the current online poker table. For example, let’s say you are playing in a very loose game and have a four flush after the flop. In a tight game you may not want to raise but in a loose game you can probably raise and get away with it. You will probably get action on your raise. You also have to remember when playing at a loose game versus playing at a tight game that certain things don’t work the same. Players are much more likely to stay in the hand in loose games and bluffing and raising don’t accomplish the same things they do at a tight table. It is all about adapting to your situation and it is a main reason players win when playing poker.

Sometimes your table is going to dictate how you play. There are times when you are going to fold certain hands that you might not fold at another table. Sometimes you want to just call, while other times a raise will be a better play. A loose-passive table has a lot of checking and calling going on, so bets and raises happen all the time. At a loose table, bluffing rarely works. You are going to lose a lot of hands at this type of table because everyone will want to draw to the river. If you happen to be at a tight-passive online poker table you need to play differently. This is the table your bluffs will work at. You can steal blinds, make a lot of bluffs and get away with it. What you don’t want to do is slow play or check-raise because that rarely works. You don’t get enough action at a tight-passive table. If you happen to be at a tight-aggressive table then you better be on top of your game. These are good tables where you will definitely need to mix up your play and really be aware of what is going on at the table.

When you sit down at the table one of the first things you want to determine is what type of table you are playing at. You can then make intelligent decisions based upon the style of your opponents. That is the key to winning at poker. Adapt to your situation and make decisions accordingly.
